Pugh Bashes 5 Base Hits
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Lansing's 7-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels, second baseman Roman Pugh told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the High-A Central-level is really something special."
The 23-year-old player earned his accolades at Veterans Memorial Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Kernels.
"His swing is getting there," said Lugnuts skipper Andy Gonzalez, who spoke glowingly of Pugh after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Roman did that to perfection."
Roman Pugh singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far this year, Pugh has hit .286 with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs.
