Smither Swings for the Cycle
Steve Smither was hard to stop but his Rochester Red Wings were not.

The Memphis Redbirds overcame a cycle by Smither to win, 8-5, against the Red Wings at Frontier Field.

"It feels good for me, but it would have felt even better if we had won that ballgame," Smither told the press corps. "I still enjoy it, but I would've liked to win the game, too."

He cracked 4 hits in 4 at-bats, had 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Although his team lost, the Red Wings center fielder will still get his place in the record books.

Steve Smither hit a solo-shot off Bobby Eline in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 5th, walked in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

For the year, Smither is hitting .326 with 10 home runs. His stats include 40 runs batted in and 48 runs scored.
