Grand Junction's Strong Suspended Friday, August 28th , 2071 Grand Junction Rockies first baseman Donald Strong received a 3-game suspension from the league office after he was ejected from a game with the Piedmont Boll Weevils recently. "I knew I probably was going to be suspended," said Strong. "We just didn't know how many games. I ain't really surprised about the suspension. What I did was wrong. You never get into it with an umpire like that. Something bad is going to happen, probably a suspension. I just hate it had to come to that." Strong was ejected when he complained bitterly about a called third strike. Strong was called out by the home plate umpire. He immediately spun around and stared at the ump and then used both hands to throw his helmet to the ground. At that point, Strong was ejected. By that time his third base coach and manager had gotten between the pair. Then Strong climbed on the back of his coach trying to reach the umpire. After tussling with him, both men got the irate player calmed down and under control and got him to go back to the dugout and to leave the premises. In 21 games this season, Strong has batted at a .289 pace with 22 hits and 3 home runs. |
