Twins Snap Méndez Streak at 22
Saturday, August 29th , 2071
Orem shortstop Vicente Méndez came into today's game against the Elizabethton Twins on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Twins did their jobs well, beating the Orem Owlz, 3-2, and holding Méndez hitless to snap his 22-game hitting streak. The 23-year-old shortstop had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Vicente did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Owlz manager John Blair. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 22 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
This year, Méndez is batting .341 with 10 home runs and 65 RBIs. In 114 games he has scored 83 times.
