Starting pitcher Ludek Dyrlik gave the Los Angeles Angels a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-0, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Dyrlik, the winner, moves to 2-2. He threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. The Rays, now 6-23, continue their inauspicious start.

Cole Thornton had a big solo home run for the Angels in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a cutter from 28-year old left-handed pitcher Mike McLaughlin and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Angels on top, 2-0.
