The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros, 9-5. Third Baseman Bill Pratt deserved a large share of the credit. Pratt was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Yankees. John McGinnis, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-0. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. With the loss, Houston drops to 12-16.

The Astros had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Yankees going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the three-time All-Star Junior Thompson came to the plate. Thompson hit a 2-run double on a 2-0 fastball from Houston hurler Carlos Concepción. It was Thompson's 6th double of the year.

"It's nice to see a lot of guys make contributions," said Yankees manager Jason Perine.
