Reds Stop Nationals, 6-4
|
No one was more impactful than Andreas Way in the 6-4 Cincinnati win over Washington. Way, who is tied for 10th in the NL in home runs with 4, was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Merrill Cooper, the winner, improved to 3-0. He held Washington to 4 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Cincinnati goes to 7-13.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cincinnati left fielder Chris Zulpo had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Zulpo stroked a 2-run single to right. It made the score 6-4, Cincinnati. For the game, he was 1 for 3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI.
"Solid performance from our side," said Reds manager Bill Senese.
