New York Wins, Hunter 3-for-4
|
With designated hitter Wayne Hunter leading the charge, the New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 6-3, at Yankee Stadium. Hunter, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2064 draft, went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Mal Mason, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Getting the save was Pancho Cuevas, his 1st.
Hunter had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a full count sinker from Giuliano Bonaccorsi, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Hunter.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Hunter told a New York Today reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The loss puts Cleveland at 3-2.
