Roberts Spins 2-0 Shutout
|
Artie Roberts of the Columbus Clippers was on top of his game.
The 25-year-old tantalized the Pawtucket Red Sox with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.
"He had the changeup working," Pawtucket manager Brian Rogers said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Columbus hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Roberts told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
So far this season, Roberts has a 11-6 record, 23 starts, 149 innings, 118 strikeouts and a 3.81 ERA.
