Red Sox Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Boston Red Sox outlasted the Kansas City Royals, 4-3, in 10 innings. Dave Walker provided some punch at the plate for Boston. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The 4th-place Red Sox bumped their record to 79-80.
The Red Sox got a clutch hit from second baseman Gerd Schneider. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Red Sox.
"It was a test of wills," said Steve Porter, the Boston skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
