Giants Drop 12-7 Decision to Phillies
|
The Philadelphia Phillies overcame a good performance by San Francisco third baseman Pablo Riveras to knock off San Francisco, 12-7, at Citizens Bank Park. Riveras went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Philadelphia is now 89-64, San Francisco 99-54.
Harlan Ward had a big bases-clearing double for the Phillies in the bottom of the second inning. With Philadelphia leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Miles Koninck, who finished 2nd in the NL in wins with 17 last year, and swatted a double to right. It was his 28th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phillies ahead, 6-2.
"We came out aggressive," said Phillies manager Mark Daniel. "We came out swinging the bats."
