Blue Jays Earn 7-3 Win Versus Kansas City
The Toronto Blue Jays locked up a win at Rogers Centre, knocking off the Kansas City Royals, 7-3. On the mound for Toronto was right-hander Andrew Mercer. He played a major role in the triumph. Fraser Malone picked up the win in relief for Toronto, while Germão Peracha took the loss. Jibril bin Muhtadi, credited with the save, is now 9 for 11 in save opportunities.

Had Jason Mailma not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mailma hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Blue Jays.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Mailma.

The first-place Blue Jays, at 88-63, now lead their division by 11½ games.
