Blue Jays Capture Close Win
|
Kansas City got a valiant performance from pitcher Andrew Mercer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto won the game, 3-2. Mercer threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Toronto reliever Roy Guzmán picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. David Anderson took the loss. Toronto is now 89-61, 8 games up in the American League Eastern Division.
Toronto took a 3-2 lead on Axel Sarkies's 24th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Sarkies hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Kansas City pitcher David Anderson visibly frustrated.
Toronto manager Craig Eccles called it "a pretty good win."
