Cubs Squelch Rockies Offense in Shutout Win
The Chicago Cubs used a great performance from Gaël Mercier, who is tied for 6th in the NL in complete games with 1, to beat the Colorado Rockies, 3-0, at Wrigley Field. Mercier, the winner, moves to 8-10. He threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. At 59-81, the Cubs claim second place in the National League Central Division.

Marçall Anjinho had a big 2-run double for the Cubs in the bottom of the second inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Flipp Mikolayunas and swatted a double to left. It was his 29th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cubs ahead, 3-0.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Colorado skipper Mike Kemmerer, "and it cost us."
