Blue Jays Upend Guardians, 8-6
|
The Toronto Blue Jays topped the Cleveland Guardians, 8-6, with designated hitter José Barbosa playing a big role. Barbosa went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 3 times for the Blue Jays in the win. Rob Steedman picked up the win, lifting his record to 15-11 on the season. He struck out 4 and walked 1 in 6.2 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Earning the save was Roger Thonis. He's now cashed in 34 of 39 save opportunities.
Pavlo Papiashvili had a big 2-run home run for the Blue Jays in the top of the third inning. With Toronto trailing 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Bo Tieh, who finished 4th in the AL in wins with 15 last year, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 24th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-2.
"I had a good game," said Papiashvili. "Winning makes it even better."
The setback makes Cleveland 71-69.
