The inspired effort of Minnesota second baseman Carl Scanlan was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-6, to the Kansas City Royals. Scanlan went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times. Joshua Soper converted his 18th save in 21 tries. The 4th-place Royals lifted their record to 63-66.

Anastagio D'Amato, who leads the AL in doubles with 41, aided the Kansas City cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 5.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said D'Amato.
