Angels Score Late, Clip Rangers, 3-2
|
The Los Angeles Angels faced a tough opponent in Texas pitcher Phil Greenhalgh, but did just enough to pull out the victory at RFK Stadium by a final score of 3-2. Greenhalgh went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Andy Schmarzo, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in holds with 16, earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 6-5. Los Angeles goes to 63-53. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Dave Brown to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Angels on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Said losing manager Bill Richardson: "We've got to find a way to push a run across."
