Philadelphia 3-2 Losers to Diamondbacks
|
Starting pitcher Cooper Woodger gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2, at Chase Field. In 5.2 innings, Woodger surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Billy Vowles got credit for the save for Arizona. It was his 29th of the year.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Diamondbacks had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when left fielder Mike Austin hit a run-scoring single. The single came off David Birss and made the score 3-0, Diamondbacks. Austin was 1-3. He drove in 2 runs.
Arizona manager Doug Morton commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
Arizona now sports a record of 64-48.
