Nationals Take Down Pirates, 7-3
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Sergio Olivas into a win. Instead, the Washington Nationals prevailed, 7-3, in 11 innings. Olivas threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The Nationals go to 46-41, putting them 4th in the National League Eastern Division.
Todd Voigt came through with a big-time hit for Washington. The third baseman smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the 11th inning to give his team the lead, 7-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Voigt.
