Win Goes to Red Sox in Tight Contest
Dave Walker impressed in the 4-2 Boston win over Detroit. Walker, who leads the AL in home runs with 24, was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Boston reliever Ollie McKinney got the win, raising his record to 4-2. Valfrid Holmsted was tagged with the loss. The Red Sox bumped their record to 44-35 with this latest triumph.

The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Walker delivered big-time for Boston, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Ron Blake. The game-changing hit put the Red Sox on top, 3-2.
