Yankees Thwart Rays, 3-1
|
New York and Tampa Bay duked it out and the Yankees came out victorious.
The New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-1, at Yankee Stadium. Starting pitcher Mal Mason was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The winner was Mason. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Pedro Castaneda.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Kieron Thurman didn't flinch. With a runner on 2nd and Tampa Bay trailing 2-1, Thurman retired Anson Hirschauer to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Thurman, with a wink.
With the win, the Yankees have a record of 32-27.
