Astros Stumble, Lose to Rangers
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros.
With shortstop Dave Johnstone leading the charge, the Texas Rangers defeated the Houston Astros, 8-1, at RFK Stadium. Johnstone, who is a three-time Golden Glove Award winner, went 2-3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Texas pitcher Maternus Mahlke got the win. He's now 4-4. Mohammed Nylund was tagged with the loss.
With Texas leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Johnstone hit a splitter from Mohammed Nylund for a grand slam home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Rangers ahead, 5-0.
"We had a nice day," said Texas skipper Bill Richardson.
Texas sits in third place in the American League Western Division at 30-24.
