Spiers Selected AZL's Premier Player Thursday, September 29th , 2044 Dave Spiers took Arizona Rookie League by storm this year, and he did it all at the age of 21. For his spectacular campaign, the San Diego (AZL) Padres 2 star has been named the 2044 Arizona Rookie League Most Valuable Player Award recipient. "To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the right fielder. On the season he compiled a .422 batting average to go with a .468 on-base percentage. The native of Wichita, Kansas also added 22 doubles, 4 triples, 8 home runs, 47 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He received 14 first place votes out of a possible 19. Wilfredo Estrada of the Oakland (AZL) Athletics Green finished second in voting, while Jim Ulrich of the Chicago A (AZL) White Sox finished third with 1 first place vote.
