Kirchoff Big Deal in Carolina: Hits for Cycle
Friday, April 26th , 2041
Malfrin Kirchoff did everything he could for the Carolina Mudcats -- literally.
The 24-year-old left fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Mudcats, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Winston-Salem Dash, 14-6, at BB&T Ballpark.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Kirchoff reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Kirchoff banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Malfrin Kirchoff hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jamie Hershberger in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a sac fly in the 9th.
In his season totals, Kirchoff has 2 home runs, .343 BA, .478 OBP, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored. He has played in 12 games.
