The Tampa Tarpons were almost helpless today in their 2-0 loss to the Clearwater Threshers and hurler Danny Martell. Martell kept the Tarpons confused all game, spinning a 6-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Martell," Tampa manager Greg DiCenzo said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 25-year-old right-hander had 2 walks and 9 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Martell said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
