Phillies Win, Montoya goes 4-for-5
|
Philadelphia second baseman Hector Montoya was instrumental in helping the Phillies triumph, 10-4, over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Montoya went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Jose Ruvalcaba, the winner, is now 2-0. He struck out 4 and walked 2 over 5 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. The Phillies have hit the ground running, raising their record to 9-4. While it's still too soon to talk about Philadelphia hoisting their 4th World Series trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
With Philadelphia leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth, Montoya hit a grand slam home run off Pittsburgh hurler Tim Kinnett. It was the 1st home run of the season for Montoya and put his team ahead, 8-3.
"We hit the ball hard," said Philadelphia manager Brandon M. "Line drive after line drive."
