Jimenez Cracks 5 Hits
|
It was a sensational day at the plate for Tennessee Smokies second baseman Leo Jimenez, but a tough one for the team, as the Smokies dropped the contest, 3-1, to the Birmingham Barons.
Even with the loss, Jimenez was pure misery for the Birmingham pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked after going 5-for-9 in an explosive display of hitting.
"It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win," said Jimenez, who is the 23-year old second baseman .
"Jimenez really hit the ball hard and when you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage," Barons manager Kai Correa told BNN reporters after the game. "I feel like we threw him some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
Leo Jimenez doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, struck out in the 8th, flied out in the 9th, doubled in the 11th, singled in the 13th, doubled in the 16th and grounded out in the 18th.
Thus far this year, Jimenez is hitting .290 with 8 home runs, 43 RBIs and 67 runs scored.
