Toronto Defeated by Boston, 6-3
|
The Boston Red Sox faced a tough opponent in Toronto pitcher Dusty Werner, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Fenway Park by a final score of 6-3. Werner went 5.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. Boston reliever Mike Fitzpatrick got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Andres Sanchez was tagged with the loss. At 3-0, the Red Sox have played well so far.
Had Chris Spellerberg not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Spellerberg hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Red Sox.
"Anything I can do to help the team win," said Spellerberg.
