Diamondbacks Stay Hot, Beat Padres, 4-1
|
The exploits of right fielder Gene Armstrong, who is tied for 9th in the NL with a .378 on-base percentage, helped the Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the San Diego Padres, 4-1. Armstrong went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win was credited to 28-year old right-handed pitcher John Hicks in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Mike Peters took the loss. The first-place Diamondbacks have won 6 in a row.
Arizona grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Armstrong hit a 2-run home run off Chris Willis. His 35th home run of the season put the Diamondbacks out in front, 3-1.
"It was a good effort all around," said Armstrong.
