Royals Lose to Nationals, 6-3
|
Vincent Mena helped his team muscle past the Kansas City Royals, 6-3. In the game, the Washington catcher went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Reliever Gabe Aguilar picked up the win. His record improves to 3-1. Gabe Kingston took the loss. Josh Morse earned the save for Washington, his 18th of the year.
Had Alex Ayala not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Ayala hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Nationals.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Ayala.
The current losing streak for Kansas City has reached 4 games.
