The Seattle Mariners topped the Texas Rangers, 6-3, in American League action at Globe Life Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Seattle designated hitter Steve Sterling. Sterling, now 9-12, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Earning his 39th save of the year was Sam Laws.
Kevin Goll, the Seattle catcher, contributed a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to make the score 3-1, Mariners. For the game, Goll went 2-4 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs.
"We didn't play well enough to win," Texas skipper Mike KC said.
Seattle goes to 66-77, Texas to 71-73.
