Late Rally Earns Los Angeles 3-1 Win
|
The Los Angeles Angels faced a tough opponent in St. Louis pitcher Manny Abrego, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Busch Stadium by a final score of 3-1. Abrego went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The win went to Euan Rae in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Andy Diez took the loss. Tim Bardell picked up the save, his 27th.
Los Angeles used a clutch hit from Jim Onorato to snatch the win. The catcher belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Angels ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Angels manager Bill Quinn, "I like our chances."
The Angels raised their record to 61-82.
