Toronto Nets 8-7 Win Versus Athletics
|
The Toronto Blue Jays weathered a fine game by Oakland designated hitter Chris Netherland to upend the Athletics, 8-7, at Rogers Centre. Netherland was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Joe Rehrig, now 5-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3 innings. Picking up the save was Mike Zahrt, his 8th.
Had Jeff Amici not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Amici hit a 2-run double. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Blue Jays.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Amici.
The second-place Blue Jays bumped their record to 56-61.
