Blue Jays Win, 5-4, in Extra Frames
|
The Toronto Blue Jays faced a tenacious opponent in Nashville pitcher Ian Hutt, but still scratched out a win at Dave Hammertime Stadium by a final score of 5-4 in 10 innings. Hutt went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs. Steve Watson notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 2-0. Their 53-59 record puts the Blue Jays second in the American League East Division.
Toronto used the clutch hitting of Phillip Sweeny to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We didn't let this one get away," said Sweeny.
