Washington Collects 5-3 Win
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks got a sterling performance from left fielder Gene Armstrong, but the Washington Nationals still prevailed, 5-3. Armstrong went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Josh Shortall was the winner. He's now 3-7. The loser was eight-time All-Star Greg Coster. The save went to Pat Simon, his 13th this season.
Washington used the bat of Ted Kagan to get the win. The designated hitter spanked a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Nationals ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it altered the outcome.
"You never take a win for granted in this league," said Kagan.
Washington, at 52-56, holds down second place in the National League East Division.
