Royals Win, 7-6, Versus Red Sox
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Kansas City Royals eventually prevailed.
Boston first baseman Chris Wuertz was sensational. He went 2-5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Kansas City beat the Red Sox, 7-6. Kansas City reliever Palben Vital picked up the win to move to 1-0. Corey Sowell suffered the loss. Juan Avila picked up his 1st save of the season.
Kendall, Florida-born Butch Simonis came through in the clutch. In the top of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Royals trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Kansas City on top.
"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Simonis. "Those qualities define our team."
Kansas City's winning streak has reached 4 games.
