New York Hands Pittsburgh 5-3 Defeat
|
The New York Mets had to overcome a big game from Pittsburgh designated hitter Tetsuzo Harada to leave PNC Park with a victory. And they did, winning, 5-3. Harada was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. Ken Shoemaker claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record stands at 4-1. The losing streak for Pittsburgh has now reached 5 games.
Tied up with the Pirates in the top of the fifth inning, the Mets got a boost from catcher Jeremy Giampa. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Giampa saw a full count fastball from Danny Guerra and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put New York on top, 3-2.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Giampa.
