The Pittsburgh Pirates rode a solid performance from 26-year-old starting pitcher Nelson Polanco to a win, beating the Miami Marlins, 5-0, at PNC Park. The Pirates have an impressive 55-33 record.

The Pirates had to work out of trouble in the top of the seventh. The score was 5-0, Pittsburgh, with two out. Miami, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Pat Franklin dug in at the plate, but on a 1-0 cutter, he grounded out.
