Blue Jays Absorb 7-2 Loss at Oakland Coliseum
|
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-2. Designated Hitter Phil Klouser deserved a large share of the credit. Klouser went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Athletics. Jeff Hartenstine snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-3 on the season. Tim Warden suffered the loss. Toronto's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Chad Thomas had a big grand slam home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the first inning. With Oakland leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a curveball from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Tim Warden and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Athletics on top, 5-0.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Klouser told the Oakland Herald. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
