Gutierrez Blasts Reds, Mets Take Game 6, 5-4
|
The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds will take the Division Cahmpionship to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Mets beat the Reds 5-4 at Citi Field to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. New York third baseman Dave Gutierrez slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice.
With the game tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the fifth, Gutierrez had a key at-bat for New York. With a runner on 1st, Gutierrez, who finished 5th in the NL in extra base hits with 87 in 2028, hit a 2-run home run off Chris Hersey, making the score 5-3, Mets.
"I got everyone together and told them they did great today," New York manager Rich Stichwynn told BNN reporters after the game. "But I warned them that even if we make it out of the Division Cahmpionship, it's only going to get harder."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Citi Field in New York.
