The Arizona Diamondbacks got a great start from 35-year-old right-hander Andy Gillis, as Arizona won the contest, 4-1, at Great American Ball Park. Gillis threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball in the win, which allowed the Arizona to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.

In the top of the first, Eric Dowdy pounced on a sinker from Naoko Tanaka and hit a 2-run home run. It gave Arizona a quick 2-0 lead.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Arizona skipper Michael J Hand.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
