Seattle Overcomes 2 HRs from Benitez, Tops Houston in Extras to Tie LC
|
Handed an opportunity to take a commanding lead in the League Championship, the Houston Astros could not close the deal.
Game 4 went into extra frames and the Seattle Mariners emerged victorious, earning a 10-inning, 8-7 win. Houston third baseman David Benitez was terrific in the loss. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice at Minute Maid Park today but could not prevent the Mariners from clawing their way back to parity. The clubs are now tied 2-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Jorge Cervantes to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Mariners on top, 8-7. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager Danny Kuchta.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
