Blue Jays Take Down Giants, 2-1
|
Steve Watson never let San Francisco get something going. The Toronto right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Blue Jays to a 2-1 win. Toronto pitcher Ken Sappelt got the win, upping his record to 5-1. Jacky Menu got the loss. Toronto is now 39-21, 7½ games up in the American League East Division.
Toronto got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Shigekatsu Okamura. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 13th inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 6 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said San Francisco manager Tom T, "let me know."
