Great Effort by Cortes Wasted in 9-6 Astros Loss
The Minnesota Twins overcame a pretty good performance by Houston first baseman Ignacio Cortes, beating the Astros, 9-6, at Minute Maid Park. Cortes hit 3 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored three times. Ben Hicks earned his 10th save, after closing out the game. The last-place Twins hiked their record to 26-33.

Dave Nichols, who finished 5th in the AL in wins with 15 last year, aided the Minnesota cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the first. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 3 with 2 walks.

"We take it day by day here," said Nichols, "and today was a good one for us."
