Behind a fine performance from Phil Halliday, the New York Mets knocked off the Washington Nationals, 7-1. Halliday went 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Mets. Mario Navarro was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he yielded 1 run on 4 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. New York has run its win streak to 4 straight.
Josh Damm had a big 3-run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the seventh inning. With New York leading 4-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Bobby Archer and swatted a home run to left. It was his 14th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 7-1.
Halliday attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
