Mets Claim 4-1 Win
|
New York turned a good performance from starting pitcher Mario Navarro into a 4-1 triumph over the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field. Navarro, now 5-2, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The Mets lead the National League East Division by 3½ games.
Phil Halliday had a big solo home run for the Mets in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a changeup from two-time All-Star Felix Vasquez and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 3-1.
Halliday attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
