Everything was working for Steve Crofts at Pioneer Park. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The splitter was working.

In an unforgettable performance, the 21-year-old Crofts fanned 16 Reds and sparked the 3-2 Johnson City Cardinals victory over Greeneville. He left Reds hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.

"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Johnson City manager Matt Gorski. "His location and command were really something."

In addition to collecting 16 strikeouts over 9 innings, Crofts allowed 7 hits and no walks in a superlative outing.

"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Crofts said with a smile.
