Rowdy Players Suspended by League Thursday, September 9th , 2027 Yesterday at Rogers Centre Damiano Palmegiani and Joel Benitez got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Guardians. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Palmegiani will have to sit out 3 while Benitez would be given a 7-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Palmegiani is swinging at a .250 pace on the year with 21 home runs, 59 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has played in 137 games. To date this year, Benitez has fashioned a 3.38 ERA over 10.2 innings with a 0-0 record. He has made 9 relief appearances with 12 strikeouts and 1 save. |
