Machado Belts Bunch of Base Hits Tuesday, August 27th , 2024 San Diego third baseman Manny Machado had a fantastic day at the plate at Busch Stadium today, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a 7-6 victory. "It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Machado said after his 5-for-7 performance against the Cardinals. "No offense meant to St. Louis, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was Busch Stadium." After the game, his manager elaborated on the third baseman's improvements, saying Machado spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball. "That's what I'm trying to do," Machado said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it." Manny Machado hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Tink Hence in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, struck out in the 11th and tripled in the 14th.
