Hays Collects Hit Number 2000 Tuesday, September 14th , 2032 The box score from yesterday's game will show that Houston beat the Chicago White Sox, 8-4. It will also show that left fielder Austin Hays went 2-for-5 for the Astros. It will not show, however, that Hays reached the 2000-hit mark for his career. The 37-year-old Hays reflected on the achievement after the game. He mused: "In one respect, it's a real milestone, I guess. Yet, it's just a base hit like any other base hit." A check of his lifetime stats shows Hays has a career .279 average with 2001 hits, 363 doubles, 19 triples, 355 home runs and 1163 RBIs.
